Man City is preparing to host West Ham on Sunday as they hope to clinch a historic fourth successive Premier League title on the final day of the league season. Meanwhile, Arsenal still has an outside chance of winning the league should things go their way on Sunday.
Let’s take a look at the two most important fixtures in the Premier League this weekend.
Premier League Final Day | Man City vs Everton | 19 May | 17:00
Premier League champions Manchester City will be looking to make history on Sunday afternoon when they take on West Ham at the Etihad Stadium. Pep Guardiola’s side has been almost unplayable in the Premier League since the Spanish manager’s arrival in England. They have since won 5 of the last 6 Premier League titles, winning the last 3 consecutively. Should they get the better of the Hammers on Sunday, they will become the first side in the history of the English top flight to win the league 4 times consecutively.
The Citizens will also be crowned champions if Arsenal fails to beat Everton, regardless of how their match against West Ham goes. Despite the possibility of Kevin De Bruyne missing the match, City is overwhelming favorites based on their current form (8 wins in their last 8 Premier League matches), and they will be confident in their side’s ability to take maximum points and secure the title in front of their fans, with Erling Haaland scoring frequently again and their defense in great form.
West Ham, on the other hand, does not have much to play for in this match as they have fallen out of the race for the lower European qualifying spots. They will not be too disappointed with their season though, as they have finished 9th in the league and their position will not change no matter how the final matchday results go. On form, David Moyes’ side really doesn’t stand much of a chance against a City side who is hungry to make history. They have only won 1 of their last 7 matches in all competitions, conceding 18 goals in the process.
Prediction: Straight win for Man City.
Premier League Final Day | Arsenal vs Everton | 19 May | 17:00
Arsenal hosts Everton in their final match of the season on Sunday afternoon as they make a desperate attempt to win their first league title in 20 years.
The Gunners will still be kicking themselves for losing at home against 4th placed Aston Villa a few weeks ago, as that was the match that tilted the title race in City’s favor and put them ahead of Arsenal by 2 points after they won their catch-up match against Spurs on Tuesday night. Despite the unexpected loss, the Gunners have since won all 5 of their matches, ensuring that this thrilling title race goes down to the wire. They have also extended their brilliant defensive record, keeping clean sheets in 4 of their last 5 matches in the league.
Even with their current form, it will surely take a lot for the Toffees’ attackers to breach Arsenal’s solid defense, with Gabriel, Saliba, and Ben White in a rich vein of form. They will need to beat a tricky Everton side, however, who have found their feet once again under Sean Dyche. Everton has ended the season strongly, managing to avoid relegation despite a 6-point deduction from the FA.
This achievement happened largely thanks to their recent form of 5 games unbeaten, securing a major home win against cross-town rivals Liverpool in the process and ending their title hopes. Like Arsenal, Everton has gone on to get 4 clean sheets from their last 5 league matches, conceding just 1 goal in the process.
Spectators can expect a cagey and tactical encounter here.
Prediction: Draw or an Arsenal win, but I would also include under 2.5 total goals which is available @ 2.95
