Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena hailed his players for not dropping their standards as the season draws to a close.
Peter Shalulile and Lesiba were on the scoresheet to hand Downs a 2-0 win over Royal AM in Harry Gwala Stadium on Tuesday night.
The result was Sundowns’ second straight league win over Royal AM in the space of three days.
With three games remaining, the Brazilians are on course for an invincible league campaign having not lost in 27 matches.
The Sundowns mentor praised his charges for a mature performance in Harry Gwala to extend their unbeaten league streak to 51 games overall.
“Congratulations to the club, everybody, the management, the supporters, it’s great to see them happy. Congratulations to the technical team, a lot of hard work behind the scenes and also congratulations to this group of players, another amazing performance. A lot of effort, a lot of intensity and I’m very happy with their performance today,” Rulani told SuperSport TV.
The Sundowns tactician says he is still demanding more from the team as they need just two points to reach the historic 71-point mark.
“I just keep demanding more, but I demand more from myself. First, I have to demand more from myself and then I have to set an example. When I give more, it means everybody else has no excuse not to give more and that’s what they are doing.
“They deserve a lot of credit and praise for that. I’m extremely proud of this group of players, what they are doing this season is incredible and it’s just not the ones we see on the pitch, it’s not just the ones you see on the bench. It’s the ones also at home watching, because when we train, we train not for the eleven but we train for the entire team,” Rulani added.
“And so the intensity is good, the players that are at home are just as much an important part of this team, as the ones that you see every single day sometimes and we rotate and we give chances to people. So very proud of the players and very proud of their effort and I’m a very proud coach,” Rulani concluded.
