Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson has urged his side to lay a winning foundation from their morale-boosting victory over SuperSport United in the DSTV Premiership on Saturday.
The Glamour Boys had not won in five league encounters ahead of beating SuperSport at the Peter Mokaba Stadium. They had lost their last three games in a row.
The result moved Chiefs into 8th position on the log, a point above closest challengers Chippa United and Golden Arrows.
Johnson believes the victory will motivate his side ahead of facing Mamelodi Sundowns on Thursday.
“I don’t think anybody should be relieved. There are still five games left, and we as Kaizer Chiefs are not relieved, but I think we’ve turned a little bit of a corner.
“Yes, it’s a good thing that we are going to Sundowns having won today. This win has boosted our personality and confidence,” Johnson noted.
Johnson lauded the players for sticking to the game-plan that produced two goals.
“I think we played according to plan. We knew the type of game we were going to have against SuperSport. It was also going to be a very physical game. Today we scored two goals, and this is what we had always expected even in our past games because we dominated,” Johnson said.
