DSTV Premiership’s congested fixture list is on the agenda once again as a full set of fixtures are arranged for this weekend, barring Mamelodi Sundowns who are participating in the CAF Champions League on Friday. We have handpicked a few games for the weekend.

Chippa United vs Kaizer Chiefs | 06 April | 15:00

Buoyed by the recent 2-0 win over Cape Town Spurs on Wednesday, Chippa United host Kaizer Chiefs looking to register two straight league wins for the first time this season. Following the result, the Chilli Boys moved to 12th on the log, and a win at the Nelson Mandela Bay will further increase their chances of securing a place in the MTN 8 for next season. The new co-coaches may have secured their job for now, but a major scalp on Saturday may increase their chances of steadying the ship next season.

Kaizer Chiefs’ dismal form continued on Tuesday as they lost to Stellenbosch FC by a single goal. The defeat stretched Chiefs’ winless run to three games and have registered just one win in six league games. The Glamour Boys are tied on 30 points with 9th placed Golden Arrows and failure to win in East London may see them drop out of the top 8. Chiefs’ away record is worrying and I don’t think they may do better in this tie, Back the Chilli Boys on the Double Chance.

Prediction: Chippa United/Draw @ 1.59

Stellenbosch vs Sekhukhune United | 06 April | 17:00

Stellenbosch’s 19 game undefeated run will be put to the test in their encounter against in-form Sekhukhune, who themselves are unbeaten in six league games. Stellies have recovered from their blip in form and a run of two consecutive wins has landed them into the second position on the log table. They have ten points from a possible 12 in their previous four games, conceding just a solitary goal in the process. A win at home will reduce Sundowns’ lead at the top to eight points.

Babina Noko’s five match winning run was finally ended in the 2-2 draw at home to Cape Town City on Tuesday. The six-game undefeated streak has comfortably put them in contention for a return to the CAF Confederations Cup for next season as they currently occupy third position on the log. They have the in-form Linda Mntambo to rely on, with his exploits seeing him score four goals in his last six games. Both teams have scored four goals apiece in their last two games, and the goalkeepers will have a busy day in the office.

Orlando Pirates vs Golden Arrows | 06 April | 17:30

The Buccaneers’ mandate of securing of securing continental football for next season seems to be hanging by a thread and the visit of a rejuvenated Golden Arrows threatens to drill more uncertainty into the team’s camp. Pirates were held to a stale 1-1 draw away to neighbors Moroka Swallows on Wednesday, a poor return after the weekend’s loss to Sekhukhune United. The disappointing results have seen second-placed Stellies open a four-point gap in the race for CAF-Interclub football.

Steven Komphela has raised Arrows from mid-table doom to top eight contention in just three games. You just wonder what he has said or done to improve the team in just a short space of time. Abafana Bes’thende fought valiantly to earn a 2-2 draw away to SuperSport United on Wednesday after heading into half-time trailing 2-0. Arrows haven seven points in three games and a favorable result in Orlando will shoot them straight into the top eight. Arrows hardly keep a clean sheet. I strongly believe two or more goals will be scored here. Bucs will want to appease their supporters.

Prediction: Additional Totals Over 1.5 @ 1.33

SuperSport United vs TS Galaxy | 06 April | 20:00

Gavin Hunt wasn’t pleased with the officiating level when SuperSport won the reverse encounter 3-2 in November. Fast forward five months later, Hunt cried foul over poor refereeing in the 2-2 draw against Golden Arrows on Wednesday. The result extended was SuperSport fifth straight draw, meaning they’ve earned just five points from a possible 15 in their quest for continental football. They have dropped to sixth on the log with 33 points and are now in danger of falling outside the top eight.

The Rockets have enjoyed a steady uprise in the second-half of the season, losing just once in five games. The good form has earned them a place in the top eight (7th), one point ahead of Kaizer Chiefs. Samir Nurkovic is back firing on all cylinders and scored in two consecutive wins against Royal AM and AmaZulu, taking his tally to seven for the season. This game will feature two of the best finishers in the country, with Bradley Grobler the marksman for SuperSport and Nurkovic for Galaxy. I see both teams finding the back of the net.
