Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson has defended Nkosingiphile Ngcobo who is being criticized by some of the club’s fans for being ‘overweight’.
Mshini (24) has featured in all league fixtures since Johnson was placed in interim position in October. The attacking midfielder is yet to finish a full 90 minutes in his 10 appearances thus far.
Mshini was a peripheral figure during Molefi Ntseki’s tenure at the beginning, as the midfielder was working his way back to full fitness then.
Mshini has registered one goal so far, in a 1-0 win over Richards Bay in November.
Johnson says Mshini may look overweight but his fitness level is not a concern.
“Nope, I don’t think Mshini is overweight, I think he’s fine. He might look overweight but I can tell you we have people who’re looking at all these things and none of these players are overweight.
“We have one of the best fitness centres in the country, best fitness measures in the country and when you do those things everything comes out perfect,” Johnson explained to the media.
Mshini came off the bench in the 85th minute to replace Yusuf Maart but could not influence proceedings as Chiefs labored to a goalless draw at Moroka Swallows.
“If I’m telling you you look fat, but you’re not fat, you look normal, you understand what I’m saying.
“Who are we as outside people to decide whether a person is fat or not. Do I look fat or overweight?” Johnson insisted.
The result was Chiefs second goalless draw in a row. They are yet to find the net in 2024, having also lost on penalties to Milford in the Nedbank Cup.
