The saying “when it rains, it pours” might apply perfectly in the case of Bayern Munich who are facing one of their most challenging domestic campaigns after years of dominance in the Bundesliga.

Things have gone horribly wrong so far this season for the Bundesliga champions as they’ve seen their league title hopes almost entirely vanish in the space of a week. After losing three games in a row, they ended up 8 points behind league leaders Bayer Leverkusen and are trailing in their last 16 tie against Lazio in the Champions League going into the second leg.

As if that was not enough trouble at Bayern, it is now rumored that one of the leaders in the side, Joshua Kimmich, is unsettled in Munich and has not been seeing eye-to-eye with Thomas Tuchel and some of his coaching assistants.

According to BILD, Kimmich enjoyed a greater leadership role under previous coaches and was Nagelsmann’s “extended arm on the pitch,” a status which he has long lost under Tuchel as the manager has openly looked for a holding midfielder despite having one of the world’s very best in Kimmich.

The German international was reportedly “extremely annoyed” after training tirelessly to be fit for the match against Leverkusen, the most important league fixture of the season, only to be left on the bench and watch his side lose 3-0.

After two defeats the following week, Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen addressed the media, stating that they have no plans to get rid of Tuchel just yet. One might think that because the Champions League campaign can still be saved, the club is keen to let Tuchel finish the season and try to win it, but they will definitely hope not to lose Joshua Kimmich in the process, who is said to be open to leaving in the next transfer window.

Tuchel conceding title defeat after latest loss

Thomas Tuchel has admitted winning the Bundesliga was not a realistic objective this season after watching his charges slump to a 3-2 defeat at relegation threatened Bochum on Sunday.
The loss dampened Bayern’s hopes of retaining the league crown as they are now eight points behind top of the table Bayer Leverkusen.
This was Bayern’s third defeat in a row, having already lost to Lazio in the Champions League and Leverkusen the week before.
“Now (the title) does not look very realistic. But last season we believed until the end and we were rewarded. So we will keep working at it.”
“That happens after every defeat. The ‘how’ we played is key. The ‘how’ was good today and that’s why today’s 90 minutes are very different from the second half at Lazio or the game at Leverkusen,” said Tuchel.
Bayern’s misery was compounded by Dayot Upamecano’s red card after conceding a penalty. The French defender was also sent off in the defeat to Lazio.
Midfielder Leon Goretzka was hesitant when quizzed about Bayern’s chances of winning the league.
“Everything speaks against us at the moment. But it’s the wrong question to ask ourselves. We need to find our game back and win our matches.”
Tuchel will be faced with another daunting task when his side take on RB Leipzig on Staurday.
