Lazio and Bologna are set to battle it out for a European qualification spot in Serie A’s early kick-off on Saturday. Seventh-placed Lazio will host fifth-placed Bologna, kicking off the day’s action in Italy’s Serie A. We take a closer look at this clash.

Lazio

Lazio enters the match with a boost in confidence following an impressive home win against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.

Captain Ciro Immobile’s penalty strike secured a 1-0 advantage going into the second leg of the last 16 tie.

Lazio, currently trailing Bologna by 5 points with a game in hand, aims to replicate their effective performance against Bologna to remain within touching distance of fourth-placed Atalanta, who shares 42 points with Bologna.

Bologna

Bologna will be looking  to maintain breathing space between themselves and other Champions League qualification contenders while applying pressure on Atalanta, who leads them on goal difference and has a game in hand. Despite a goal drought, Bologna hopes for Zirkzee to rediscover his scoring form. With Orsolini back and in form, Thiago Motta’s side is confident in their ability to break through the Lazio backline and create scoring opportunities.

Prediction: I anticipate a draw in this game. It is likely to be a cagey encounter featuring two of Serie A’s most tactically advanced coaches facing off.
