Manchester United traveled to Wolves on Thursday night for a potentially tricky Premier League encounter as they looked to get back within reach of the top 4.

Tricky is exactly what the match-up would prove to be, as United could only secure all 3 points in the 97th minute thanks to a brilliant Kobbe Mainoo goal.

The Red Devils started the game convincingly with two early goals from forwards Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund, leading 2-0 at halftime. The atmosphere changed when Pablo Sarabia converted a Wolves penalty in the 71st minute, but Scott McTominay’s goal seemed to have sealed victory for United, making it 3-1 with 15 minutes left on the clock.

Wolves then turned things around with two late goals (Kilman & Neto) to equalize in the 95th minute. United were not done, however, as their teenage sensation Kobbe Mainoo weaved his way past the Wolves defense and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner, winning the match for Eric Ten Hag’s side in the 97th minute.

Speaking after the match, the United boss commended the progress that Mainoo is making, highlighting his physicality and composure as important qualities for a midfielder in the modern game.

“He is making incredible progress. He has great abilities, he is the modern midfield player. He can defend and attack but also he has the physicality to do both ways. He is also composed.”

United will be hoping to keep this momentum going as they look to maintain their hopes for a spot in the top 4. On Sunday they face West Ham at Old Trafford.
