Relegation contenders Richards Bay FC made a rather unexpected announcement when they revealed that four players from their Dstv Diski Challenge squad have been promoted to the first team.
The Rich Boys, clinging to save their top-flight status, promoted Ntlonelo Bomelo, Thandoluhle Gazu, Siphesihle Buthelezi and Sanele Zulu. The players have all signed a five-year contract each.
“We wish them well”, added the club’s short statement.
Bay are languishing in 15th place in the league table, having amassed 13 points after 16 matches. The club has scored a mere 13 goals, conceding 20, which equals to goal difference of minus (-7).
The club has only signed Malawi international forward Khuda Muyaba in the recently closed January transfer window.
Interim coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi had ecently called for ‘experienced’ signings ahead of the transfer window in a bid to change the team’s fortunes in the second round of the season. In a surprise twist, the club’s former captain Katlego Maphathe was released midway two weeks ago, and has since signed for bottom club Cape Town Spurs.
Muyaba, who previously played for Polokwane City, has signed a contract running until the end of the season.
Natal Rich Boys will restart the season with a daunting trip to Polokwane City on 14 February. The club has won only three matches in the league so far.
