Brighton & Hove Albion leapfrogged Manchester United to seventh position in the Premier League after a 0-0 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday.

Wolves are in 11th position, flanked by 10th-placed Newcastle United and 12th-placed Bournemouth.

“I think we played well enough to win the game, we created the right chances to score,” said Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi.

“It wasn’t the best game in my time, but we created the conditions to win the game. We made some mistakes in the crucial part of the pitch and because of this we didn’t win.”

Brighton played without several first-choice players, including Kaoru Mitoma, Simon Adingra, Ansu Fati, Igor, Joel Veltman and Julio Enciso.

“We are seventh in the table and if you consider how many injury problems we have had in the first part of the season, we have to be proud because we are playing better.” added De Zerbi.

“Wolverhampton are a good team with good players, especially in attack with qualities that can put all teams in difficult situations. They have won the same number of games as us.”

This season’s English Premier League will resume on 30 January 2024, after this week’s several Carabao Cup and FA Cup fixtures.

Liverpool currently occupy first position in the 2023-24 EPL standings, followed by reigning champions Manchester City in second position and Arsenal in third.
