Former Liverpool captain,Jordan Henderson has joined Ajax Amsterdam after spending under 7 months in Saudi Arabia with with Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League.
He had played for Liverpool in the English Premier League for 12 years before moving to Al-Ettifaq.
“It has been a tough year for Ajax, both on and off the pitch,” said Henderson.
“That’s the same for me in the past six months. So, hopefully, we can help each other to move forward and be successful in the near future.”
Ajax currently occupy fifth position in this season’s Eredivisie. They have won eight, drawn four and lost five matches.
“We wanted an experienced midfielder with leadership qualities. Partially due to injuries in the team, we were looking for someone who could step in immediately. Jordan is that type of player,” read a statement from the club.
“His arrival means a huge enhancement for our squad. Both on and off the pitch, a football player of this calibre is important for our many young players. He’s an English international player and has won the Champions League and many other prizes with Liverpool.”
Saudi Pro League CEO Saad Allazeez on Jordan Henderson: “This is all just part of football, all across the world and life, across all careers. Sometimes despite best efforts people don’t always adjust or settle and that can impact performances and lead to frustrations for all”.
“Jordan is a good guy and it’s a shame that things didn’t work out for him, but he’d be the first to admit that full support was given to him and respect shown. So everyone tried and no one is to blame”.
