Stormers coach John Dobson said he had mixed feelings after his sides’ 31-24 win over Sale Sharks on Saturday night, saying he was delighted with the win but disappointed to have gifted the opponents a bonus point.

The Stormers, who looked to be getting back to their attacking best, particularly in the first half where they score three tries, were also a bit error-prone at times as they repeatedly let Sale back into the game.

Speaking after the game Dobson said: “It was a frustrating game. It’s a game I thought we should have put away a lot earlier.

“Credit to Sale for the way they fought. They played to a plan. They got the contestables and we got trapped in that a bit.

“Credit to them especially with so many players out. We didn’t get going.

“Another three scores and this game was over. I never thought we were in danger of losing it. The scrum was a positive and we scored some nice tries. We got sucked into a dogfight and that was frustrating.”

Dobson’s thoughts were echoed by his skipper Deon Fourie who added: “We need to consolidate sometimes as well.

“We need to work on our maul, it is one of our strong points, it didn’t come off today. Credit to Sale who managed to stop us in that department.”
