Ernst Middendorp is eager to recruit players who will slot straight into Cape Town Spurs’ first-choice starting XI during Janaury 2024’s transfer window.
Spurs are currently at the very bottom of the 2023-24 Premier Soccer League points table. They have won one, drawn one and lost 14 fixtures.
“You are rock bottom, and if you are on four points, what are you talking about? It means at this moment you must look in every department – you must look for a goalkeeper, defence, midfield, striker positions, you can look all around,” said Middendorp.
“Players who are coming in must be in the first XI players. It is not a question of the budget – it is a question of where you find them.”
Spurs’ latest recruit is Rafiq de Goede. He has joined from Maritzburg United on a free transfer. Whether Middendorp secures more signings for the second half of the PSL season remains in the balance.
“The question is – it is possible to find players who are going to help us? Its not to fill quantity into it and work with players we have and make them better and try to find some players where we can get them into the right position, formation, systems.
“We must look. We must be convinced about it and that is what we have done for weeks to keep an eye open, to have a lot of discussions, and try to find options and possibilities.”
