Everton boss Sean Dyche has cautioned fans not to expect much by way of transfer business during the current window.
As The Toffees prepare to face Crystal Palace in eth FA Cup on Thursday night, Dyche explained that the club’s current ownership situation meant that transfer business was unlikely.
Speaking to the media he said: “To do any deal the club has to be in the situation to do so. We manged to rebalance the squad the best we could in the summer, and the situation now is similar.
“At this moment in time, it is unlikely to be busy. As the deal hasn’t gone through yet [with the new owners], they’ve been upfront with us, and I’ve had a casual chat with them.
“It’s reality. They’re trying to be truthful, until it’s a done deal we can promise all sorts but there’s no point in doing that. I like facts.”
He added that he wasn’t able to rule out the sale of any players but stressed that he was hopeful that would not be the case. “That will be down to the powers at be, they’ll ask my advice, but we’ve got a more rounded squad now.
“It’s performed better, adding the deducted points back on and you can see our points per game ratio. You don’t want to start taking players out if you can help it,” he said.
As he looked ahead to Thursday’s FA Cup game Dyche admitted that the festive season schedule was starting to take its toll, but he refused to complain about the load.
“The performance levels have been very good over the festive period, but injuries and suspensions are all taking their toll and eventually the game schedule did catch up with us. I think that was quite obvious.
“I’m not going to sit here and moan about it though because it’s the same for all teams,” he said.
Everton face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park at 10pm on Thursday.
