TS Galaxy coach Sead Ramovic, who led his side to the final of the Carling Knock-out on Sunday with a 3-2 win over AmaZulu, has told of the many ambitions he still hopes to fulfil as a football manager.
Ramovic, who played as a goalkeeper during a 15-year career that saw his play for team like VfL Wolfsburg and Borussia Monchengladbach, said his side deserved to be in the tournament’s final. Although he added that winning the league was their long-term goal.
Speaking to the media in the wake of Sunday’s win he said: Every day I try my best…hopefully one day we can make progress and win the league but right now we focus on our next game against Pirates [which is away on Saturday].
“We need points to boost our dream to finish in the top eight this season.
“But we beat Sundowns, Sekhukhune and now AmaZulu, so I think we deserve to be in the final,” he said.
Galaxy will face Stellenbosch in eth final, which is scheduled to be played in Durban on 16 December. It is an encounter Ramovic is greatly looking forward as he hopes to address so past results against a team that is led by Steve Barker, a man he describes as one of the best in South Africa.
“We will play against Stellenbosch in the final, and I have never won against them… I think I played two draws against them and lost two times as well. Why?
“It’s because they have a fantastic coach, who’s been in this business for a long time.
“What he does with this team every season is unbelievable. For me, he’s one of the best coaches in this league…Steve Barker.”
Ramovic went on to give some insights into his tightly knit squad: “We have a small squad of 23 players. Our players hardly get muscle injuries, so that talks to great periodisation.
“It took me seven years to educate myself. Yes, I played in one of the big leagues in the world, but playing and coaching aren’t the same.
“So, to get the highest education, highest coaching licence in the world it took me seven years of hard work and studying these kinds of things like periodisation to make sure that players don’t get injured,” he said.
