Former England international Jermaine Jenas has called on Gareth Southgate to select Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon for the national team.

Gordon, who scored the only goal on Saturday night as Newcastle beat Manchester United, is in a rich vein of form at the moment and Jenas, a former Newcastle player himself called on Southgate to make him part of his plans.

Speaking on TNT Sports Jenas said: “Gareth Southgate has to give some serious consideration to selecting Anthony Gordon.

“Yes, we know he is loyal to players he has selected before, but compared to Marcus Rashford his work-rate is far superior at the moment.

“You cannot ignore what Gordon is doing at the minute.”

Meanwhile Gordon was quite happy to share the acclaim for his fine performance, saying it had been a true team performance.

Interviewed after the game by TNT Sports he said: “I think it is down to the team and how hard we work for each other. I am just trying to work hard and be someone who the team can rely on, and I am getting the rewards at the moment, so I am happy.

he went on to make special mention of Tino Livramento who plays behind him on the left: “He has been a great addition to the squad. A lovely person and more importantly what a player. His form has been immense, and I am really enjoying playing with him,” he said.
