Wednesday night was a big one for Arsenal as they qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League in comprehensive style, thumping French side Lens 6-0.
The Gunners were superb in the first half as they went into the break five to the good courtesy of goals from Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard.
A late Jorginho penalty rounded out the scoring on the night and saw the Gunners into an unassailable lead at the top of Group B.
Speaking after the game a delighted Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta told TNT Sports: “Today was the day to get it done. We did it in a beautiful way.
“We scored five goals against a really good side in the first half.
“You can become really sloppy. And there were parts of the second half with different behaviours, but we stayed really focused.”
Asked how it felt to win the group with a game in hand, he replied: “It’s great because the schedule we have at the moment is crazy. We’re already thinking about Wolves in 72 hours.
“We have to demand more from each other. We’ll have to be well prepared for Wolves,” he said.
Arsenal’s final game in the Champion’s League group stage is away to PSV Eindhoven on 12 December. Before that game they play Premier League games against Wolves, Luton and Aston Villa.
