The Sharks may still be without a win in the URC and anchored firmly to the bottom of the table, but Springbok centre Lukhanyo Am says it will not be long before they are performing as they should be.

After five games in the competition John Plumtree’s side have lost five and they have collected a measly two points.

But the competition is tough and traditionally nobody has run away with proceedings – as evidenced by the fact that each of the sixteen teams has lost at least once.

As the Sharks prepare to face the third-from-bottom Dragons on Saturday Am told the media: “Once we get individuals to sharpen up and execute the style of rugby we want to play, we will be very dangerous.”

Reflecting on the most recent loss, against Connacht, he said: “It was one of those frustrating games. We felt in control for most of the game and we displayed and kind of executed what we wanted to execute.

“It’s [about] finishing those final moments. That was the story of the game — we took control and whenever we had the ball in hand, we looked dangerous.

“We are just not converting the opportunities we create.

“But it’s the beginning of the season, the season only ends in May or June, so we still have quite some time to sharpen up things and catch up. It happened in the past with Munster and the Stormers.

“It’s still early for us to throw it in. We are working towards something bigger than us, and we are looking forward to the rest of the season.

“We are going in the right direction and it’s about time where we will get the results because we are a growing team, and we are a learning team.”

In what will come as a major boost for the Sharks their Springbok contingent of Ox Nche, Eben Etzebeth, Grant Williams, Jaden Hendrikse and Makazole Mapimpi are back with the squad and have been training with them all week.

The Sharks versus The Dragons at kings Park kicks-off at 19:05 on Saturday evening.
