Coach Eric Tinkler has encouraged Cape Town City to remain in pursuit of first position in the DStv Premiership.

Cape Town City currently occupy third position in the 2023-24 PSL standings. They are one point behind second-placed SuperSport United and two behind first-placed Mamelodi Sundowns.

City’s next three PSL fixtures will be against Golden Arrows, Stellenbosch and reigning champions Sundowns.

“We will continue, just going game by game,” said Tinkler.

“We’re two points behind Sundowns now but they’ve got games in hand. But games in hand, there’s no guarantee that they are going to collect three, three and three points. That’s the way I judge it.

“I’m just looking at who is in front of me – can I close that gap between myself and who is in front of me? And that’s the way Ill continue doing it.”

City’s most recent result was a 2-0 triumph over Royal AM. Prior to that, they beat Chippa United and Richards Bay.

“I must be honest, me, I’m not happy. We won, yes, we won, but I’m not happy about the last game too. We’re not playing how I think we should be playing, especially when we go up.

“I judge myself as a coach when I see what we practise being fulfilled. I still have a smile on my face because we’re playing good football, we’re playing the brand that we want to play.”
