Mamelodi Sundowns coach, Rulani Mokwena, congratulated his players, technical team and the club’s management after winning the inaugural African Football League on Sunday. 

The 36-yer-old lifted his second trophy as sole head coach of Masandawana following Sundowns’ 3-2 aggregate win over Wydad Athletic Club.

After eliminating Petro de Luanda in the quarter-final, Al Ahly in the semi-final, Sundowns beat Wydad AC 2-0 at a packed Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Sunday to lift their third continental trophy, leaving Mokwena overcome by emotions.

“Congratulations to this amazing football players, I’m very lucky to be their coach,” he told SABC Sport. 

“Congratulations to Mamelodi Sundowns, congratulations.

“It’s for the fans, it’s for the Yellow Nation, it’s for this magnificent group of players, it’s for the chairman – unbelievable support he’s always given to me.

“It’s for Yogesh, the technical stuff, coach Manqoba, coach Wendell, coach Michael, and then this magnificent group players, congratulations to everybody.

When asked what it means to him personally, Mokwena gave somewhat of a cryptic message.

“It’s difficult to talk, the conditions are very difficult but God is good and God loves us all,” he added.
