Kaizer Chiefs’ interim coach, Cavin Johnson, wants to see his side winning the ‘Kaizer Chiefs way’ after a close victory in a DStv Premiership game against Cape Town Spurs on Wednesday night.

The Soweto giants moved up to seventh place on the table after securing their fourth win of the season in 11 games.

Colombian international Edson Castillo opened the scoring in the first half, and new striker, Ranga Chivaviro, doubled the lead for the Glamour Boys, scoring his first goal for the club. Luvuyo Phewa pulled one back for Spurs before the break, setting up a nervy second half for Chiefs with the score at 2-1.

In the second half, Chiefs’ defense managed to keep Spurs at bay, and their patience on the break was eventually rewarded with a Christian Saile goal in the 83rd minute, which sealed the victory for Johnson’s side. Luke Baartman pulled one back for Spurs, but Chiefs managed to hold on for all three points.

“It’s a good victory, but yet again I think we allowed them in especially at 2-0, we dropped off a little bit and I thought we could have scored the third one before they got their one,” Johnson told SuperSport after the game.

“But then we put ourselves under a lot of pressure, we get the three and again we allow them to come in very easily, it’s not a Kaizer Chiefs way.

“And they get 3-2 in the dying minutes of the game and we really need to up our game again. So for me I think we’ve got a lot to learn. I think we’ve got a lot to improve on but hopefully we’re able to get more results the Kaizer Chiefs way,” he said.

When asked about the errors in the second half, Johnson added, “It comes with testing the players, it comes with seeing what partnership is probably the best to play with and it’s the second game. It’s 24 hours of hard work,” Johnson said.

The interim coach has a few days to settle on his starting XI after testing some fringe players like Nkosingiphile Ngcobo on Wednesday night.
