Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has emphasized the need to celebrate every victory after a four-game winless run.

The Buccaneers secured three points with Thabiso Monyane’s late second-half strike on Tuesday night in a DStv Premiership clash.

Riveiro has been under pressure from fans who haven’t been convinced by his side’s performances in the league and a shocking Carling Cup exit.

“It is time to recover, and we need to celebrate today [Tuesday]. I think we need to celebrate the small victories as well, not only when we win trophies. The guys are working hard to get the results,” Riveiro told SuperSport TV.

It was also the third win for Pirates this season, with just 10 goals scored and eight conceded.

“I am happy with the results, especially with the performance in the first half. I think we played a bit slower in the second half, showing some signs of fatigue. With the substitutions, we injected some fresh energy.

“But, at the same time, it takes time to find the right spaces, given the talent they have upfront. They managed to put one ball in the net, and that’s the difference compared to the other games where we didn’t get the results,” he said.

“Today, we are happy. I am thrilled for the boys because this is a relief for them. I’m not even thinking about the next one; we need to celebrate tonight because the last few games were not easy for us.

“We have to win games. Orlando Pirates wants to win frequently and be consistent. Our performances in the last game were good enough to get the results but not good enough to capitalize on the chances we created.

“Today was a test for all of us because it’s not easy to play here at home with our supporters and perform at the level they did. This win will boost our confidence, and they finally got the results they deserved,” he added.

Orlando Pirates will face Kaizer Chiefs in the much-anticipated Soweto Derby this weekend.
