Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino reserved praise for Nicolas Jackson after The Blue’s 4-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Monday.

Jackson scored a hat-trick as Chelsea moved into the top half of the 2023-24 English Premier League points table.

“I am pleased for Nicolas because we know that when strikers don’t score, they suffer. So, that is something for people to consider. He is very young, having arrived at the club this summer, and it’s not easy to play for Chelsea, considering their history of winning and lifting trophies,” said Pochettino.

“That’s why, as a coaching staff, we need to provide the tools and remain calm when assessing things. The confidence is there, and I am so happy for him because he deserves this boost.”

Chelsea defeated a Tottenham XI reduced to nine players after center-back Cristian Romero and left-back Destiny Udogie received red cards.

“I believe we deserved the win. We forced them to make too many mistakes. Tottenham was better in the first 15 minutes, but then I think we dominated the game; our performance was strong and forced them into making mistakes,” Pochettino added.

“If you consider everything that occurred during the game, I believe it was a fair outcome. That’s why I think, overall, the performance was good because we arrived here in a different situation than Tottenham.

“They were at the top of the table, winning and playing very well, full of confidence. For us, it was about coming here to face the leaders in the best situation possible. This performance showed that we were really good, and I have nothing more to say than that.”

Chelsea will host Manchester City and then travel to Newcastle United, concluding their November English Premier League fixtures. December will begin with matches against Brighton and Hove Albion and Manchester United.

“We have played really well since the start of the season, deserving more, but in the end, it’s about winning points,” Pochettino concluded.

“It was important to come to Tottenham and secure the victory against a team that has been performing exceptionally well. These three points could be crucial in helping us push up the table.”
